About me

I founded Scalable IP as an independent consultancy to help Start-ups, Scale-ups and SMEs to make the most of their ideas. My weapon of choice is Intellectual Property, and I bring sound legal knowledge, hands-on business experience, and the right network:

Sound legal knowledge

After my PhD in Chemistry from studies at Leibniz University Hannover, Germany and Stanford, United States, with a major in organic chemistry and minor in civil law, I took my first practical IP steps in Tokyo, Japan as Trainee Patent Attorney. I now have arrived at 25 years experience in Intellectual Property. I am a registered German Patent Attorney, a registed European Patent, Trademark and Design Attorney and I have passed the United States Patent Bar. In 2020, I was named a Corporate IP Star by the prestigious organization Managing IP. As lecturer, I teach patent law at the Leibniz University Hannover, Germany, and also ‚IP for SME and Start-ups‘ at the Centre for International Intellectual Property Studies in Strasbourg, France.

I am a a regular invited speaker or chair at IP conferences (https://tradesecretprotectioneu.com/ events/trade-secret-ip-protection-management-eusummit).

As Scientific Assistant at the FernUniversität in Hagen 2009 - 2011,  I trained candidates for the European Patent Attorney Examination in the Examinatorium Europaeum of the Patentanwaltskammer in collaboration with Fern Universität in Hagen, Germany. As member of the respective DIN/ISO-Committee, I was involved in norming Patent Valuation.

Hands-on business Experience

I had the privilege to gain experience from three highly successful multinational corporations: Bayer, DSM (now DSM-Firmenich) and BASF, practicing in Germany, the United States, the Netherlands and Belgium. There I was increasingly responsible for identifying, protecting and monetizing high-value IP for entire global business units, and supported projects from first wild ideas to mature world-scale business lines. As member of a global executive team, I contributed to pivotal decision making, and received executive leadership and business training at IMD Business School Lausanne. Being an Alumni from IMDs today allows me to keep my business skills up-to-date through their extensive curriculum. While at DSM, I won the global DSM Business Plan Competition with my team's pitch.

The right network

Over my career, I was fortunate to work along many talented experts that are as enthusiastic about IP as I am. Many of them now form part of my network, with which I regularly connect and grow. I reach out to them to solve your problems, because IP is too complex a field that one person can cover it alone. My collaboration with accelerators such as the Global Entrepreneurship Centre helps me understand Start-ups' needs.
